It's cold in Pennsylvania. When we woke up this morning it was 50 degrees and our furnace didn't work! I lit a couple of burners on the stove and got a ceramic heater out; those helped some but we really need that furnace. I had the furnace serviced before we left, and it worked fine a couple of days ago - but not now! I guess we will need to find a serviceman somewhere tomorrow. It was supposed to be 30 this morning in Stowe, and we are due there Sunday. I know you folks back home are suffering with upper 90's and 100's, but please don't laugh at us too much.
We drove about 180 beautiful miles today to Campbell, New York. Jenna and I both commented that we have had beautiful weather, great roads, no traffic and amazing scenery all the way from Texas. This part of New York certainly doesn't fit the stereotype we had for New York. The topography we have seen so far has been lush, green and outstanding. We are in the Finger Lakes area of southwestern New York. Tomorrow we journey on to Central Bridge which is in the southeastern New York.
When we checked in to our campground the owner asked if we planned to visit any attraction during our short stay. He then proceeded to tell us about all of the museums, wineries, craft breweries, parks, etc. in the area. We chose to go to the Glenn Curtiss Museum. Glenn Curtiss was born in this area in the late 1800's and developed a love for speed at an early age. He was constantly tinkering on things and opened a bicycle shop while still a teenager. He moved on to design and build motorcycles, and in 1907 built an 8 cylinder motorcycle and drove it 136 mph. We held the title "Fastest Man on Earth" until 1930. He went on to build large airplane factories in Buffalo, NY and produced thousands of planes during WW I.
After the war Curtiss moved to Florida and developed the travel trailer and the first 5th wheel. Examples of many of his planes and trailers - including that 1st 5th wheel - are on display at his museum. During his short life he designed motorcycles, airplanes, trailers, boats, motors, and a host of other things we use today. His museum is packed with hundreds of his creation.
I also had to pay over $4 a gallon for deisel. With Obama's desire to strike Syria and Putin's response that Russia will back Syria, I fear we may be paying more than $4 everywhere. But enough of politics - I'm on vacation!
Until next time - Happy Trails!
