Day 1 THE FALL COLORS TOUR BEGINS - SORT OF

Tuesday, September 10

Rain and cool temps greeted us this morning. It was in the low 50's when I took Lucy out this morning, and the rain has picked up quite a bit.  We had a continental breakfast with the rest of our group this morning before the rain really hit.  There are 16 rigs on the tour.  Several couples are from Florida, Arizona and California; one is from Iowa, another from South Carolina.  Others come from Illinois, North Carolina, and Maryland.  Barry and Terry, the Wagonmasters, are fulltimers as are George and Carol, the tailgunners.   There are two of us from Texas but the other Texans haven't arrived yet.  This is the 4th trip in a row for one couple from California.  They left home on March 27 and did a "Watz Across Texas" tour in April, a "Canadian Maritime and Gaspe" tour in July/August, a New York City rally tour in late August and this "Fall Colors" tour now.  They are going to a rally in Palm Springs on their way home.  They won't get home until November 8.  That's a little too much going for me; plus too much money.  Another couple are going on their 19th adventure!

We met with Terry and Carol, wives of the Wagonmaster and Tailgunner, and finished up our paperwork.  They gave us the Travel Guide for this trip.  It's funny, on our Alaska trip it wasn't unusual to have a 300+ miles travel day.  Friday our travel day will be 37 miles.  Some of the travel days will be longer, but only one is more than 200 miles.

Orientation began at 3:00 today. Everyone in the group introduced themselves, and then the Wagonmaster told us about what to expect when entering Canada, the procedure for leaving and arriving at campgrounds, socials, pot lucks, LEO's (Let's Eat Out), radio procedures on the road, and just general information about traveling as a caravan. When caravaning we don't get in one long line. On the contrary, they want us to travel individually or in groups of 2-4. Each group should be separated from the next by 10-15 minutes. This allows other traffic to not be too held up by a bunch of big, possibly slow-moving vehicles.

We are having a orientation party in a few minutes where we have the opporturnity to visit with the others and have dinner. The RV service tech just arrived.  He has the furnace fixed.  Too bad it's going to be 87 tomorrow.   Go figure.  Tomorrow we go on our first bus tour. We will be going to Montpelier and several other places. I'll report on those tomorrow. Until then, Happy Trails.
