A BROKEN LEG???

Wednesday, October 9

Well, today didn't get off to such a good start!  As I started getting things around and hitching up the trailer to leave Bath, New York, I discovered that the right landing gear leg on the 5th wheel wouldn't retract or extend.  Also, it wouldn't allow the other landing gear leg to work either.  I asked Ernie if he had any ideas and his pretty well aligned up with mine.  Nothing seemed to work.  Finally I decided to do what we did in Alaska when the left leg wouldn't work properly,  I pulled out  the 20-ton bottle jack that Robert gave me and went to work.  We were able to get the trailer hitched to the truck and both landing gears retracted.  The only problem is that I can't unhitch until I get a new leg.  I called the manufacturer in Indiana and they have one in stock.  So I guess we will head for Indiana Saturday when the tour ends.

Ron, Sherry, Earl, Eunice and Jenna and I left the campground about 9:15 headed for Niagra Falls, Ontario.  It wasn't long before we were joined by Ernie, Ruth, Jerry and Joyce as we proceeded down Highway 390 and the U.S./Canadian border.  It was an uneventful drive across western New York.  Most of this part of the state is rolling farmland with a few good hills thrown in to keep you on your game.  We arrived in Niagra Falls about 2:00 after stopping for lunch out on I-90.  Our passage through Canadian Customs was smooth - I don't think anyone was stopped.
Ron and Sherry led the way across the Peace Bridge into Canada.

      The dreaded Customs awaits.

Shortly after we arrived Barry commented that he smelled propane around our rig.  Jenna has been commenting the same thing for several weeks.  I can't smell anything so I didn't know how bad it was or where to start looking. Trusty George came along and found the leak within minutes. We had a small leak behind one of the regulators. He took the regulator off, put some teflon tape on it, and reinstalled the regulator. Now we have no leak. Thanks George.

Several in our group went to a Canadian musical program tonight, but we decided to stay in a recover from our expensive day. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Tomorrow we have a bus tour beginning at 8:30. I'm excited to finally see Niagra Falls. I'll report on what I see tomorrow. Until then Happy Trails!
